Health and Safety Executive Confirms Investigation Into Newton Longville Explosion

The Health and Safety Executive has opened an inquiry into an explosion at a home on Cobb Hall Road in Newton Longville, reported to HSE on 10 August 2026. Inspectors are working with Buckinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service and Thames Valley Police to establish the cause and to assess whether there were breaches of the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974, a matter of interest to regulators and safety practitioners.

The Health and Safety Executive is investigating the cause of an explosion that occurred at 9:42am on Sunday at a domestic property on Cobb Hall Road in Newton Longville. HSE was notified on Monday 10 August and has sent inspectors to the site to begin inquiries.

HSE inspectors are working closely with Buckinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service and Thames Valley Police to examine the scene and gather evidence. Thames Valley Police is currently responsible for the site and for managing road closures while emergency services carry out their response.

The investigation will examine whether there were breaches of the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974. Results from the inquiry will be relevant to health and safety professionals because they may identify causes and any regulatory issues that could affect risk management and compliance practice.
