The Secretary of State for Work and Pensions has appointed Louise Hosking as a non executive director of the Health and Safety Executive Board. Hosking’s long experience in environmental health, governance and professional leadership will inform board level decision making on health and safety regulation and engagement.

The Secretary of State for Work and Pensions has confirmed the appointment of Louise Hosking as a non executive director on the Health and Safety Executive Board. She will replace Professor Gina Radford, who leaves the Board in September 2026. HSE’s chair welcomed the appointment and said Hosking will contribute to the Board and help deliver the organisation’s mission to protect people and places.

Louise Hosking has more than 30 years of experience across health and safety, environmental health, governance and regulatory assurance. She began her career as a Local Authority Environmental Health Officer and has held senior executive and non executive roles, including Executive Director of Environmental Health at the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health. She has also served as President and Chair of Council at IOSH, the professional body for occupational safety and health.

For health and safety professionals, the appointment adds board level experience that combines practitioner background with leadership in professional bodies and regulator related governance. That mix of operational and governance experience is directly relevant to oversight, regulatory assurance and engagement between HSE, industry and professional organisations.
